One to watch: Nam Le.
01Dec08
I’ve been meaning to pick up Nam Le’s book of stories after reading about him in the NY Times. He’s a young writer of Vietnamese origin who attended the Iowa Writer’s Workshop after a short career as a lawyer in Australia, and this first story collection shows off his ability to write about cultures other than his own as well as meditate on the pratfalls of being a writer of color. “The Boat” was just named one of the 100 notable books of 2008.
This cheapo hopes it will come out in paperback soon. If you’ve read this book, by all means share your impressions here. And cheers to young Asian writers!
